I have met with an acquintance of mine in Nelson Pine Industried Ltd. to be introduced with the Senior IT Manager in the company. I will be working as an IT Junior under his supervision. The project proposed to me was related to network monitoring task in which I would need to create a dashboard which displays a map of CCTV cameras that could tell its uptime. In addition to that, another map of wireless access points around the site will also be created. These maps will be displayed in the IT office in a monitoring screen which helps the team to keep track of the CCTV cameras, wireless access points and switches.
For the preparation of my work placement, I was assigned for some research in a network monitoring program which is PRTG. I have watched a few videos on it and pretty much understood how it works and what its features are. Some further studies were also done on maps as it will be my main project in this work placement.
As for the proposal of the work placement, it will be based from the employer information which provided the details on the proposed activity of my work placement project. Additional information still needed to be researched to be able to determine the limitations and some ethical issues that may be found in the work placement project.
