Research Methods Reflection

A Great Adventure

GIF of I AM GOING ON AN ADVENTURE scene from which the meme began

First time I have to hear that I have to study research method (again), I was not excited and hope that things will be done quickly, but things took a huge turn. Mostly full of confusion and curiosity, the question that always comes up in my head in the first few classes was “why should I need to know this philosophical things?”. I thought that we are supposed to learn how to do research not philosophy. Still I follow along from what Lars taught and find it more and more intriguing. I finally understood that what we have been through creates the foundation which we need to do research.

There were a lot of mind blowing facts which have been under me nose all the time. All the concepts I used in my bachelor studies suddenly make sense. It seems all the lessons I have learned regarding research method is only a fraction of what Lars had taught us. I admire Lars on how he could create such flow in our course from the foundation to the implementation. Mostly I appreciate Lars on how he can take all opinions with positivity and open mindedness.

A Great Appreciation

In this course I found what I really want and should do from the start. Through easy and careful steps Lars had provided, I slowly found the idea which I want to implement and focus on in my project and in my studies. I really like the idea where we could build upon the idea of our project slowly and creating a solid form out of it.

It has always been my dream to create a virtual reality application which could actually help people psychologically. I have been carrying this idea since I was a bachelor student which obviously failed because of its complexity which they see as unrealistic. This course provided me more freedom in what I should approach my idea for the project and explore my creativity more.

Though right now, I am having a tough decision on continuing with my project idea or try to apply for a work placement. But that’s a decision for another time.

Truly, I felt a bit sad that research method class has to end faster compared to other courses. This class will always a special place in me. And last but not least, hats off to my most wonderful Tutor Lars! Thank you!

Cheers!
