Dividing The Task
So in the team, we are dividing the task into 3 parts. Reet will do research about IoT which is the emerging technology that we are going. Sinhara will do more in depth research on ITIL. Lastly, I will focus on researching Cobit 5.
Chosen Topic
The specific emerging technology in IoT that we are planning to take up is the smart sensors. We are still not sure which specific sensor we are going to focus on and after we find it we will try to implement it with the ITIL and Cobit 5 framework.
Both framework provide guidance for an ITSM (IT Service Management). This benefits both on the enterprises and all IT related services by strengthening their alignment. As you can see below in the chart, Cobit 5 has the idea governing busineess goals for alignment with IT objectives. It stands from the directing approach rather than the operation. On the other hand, ITIL manages the operation of IT lifecyles in an enterprise.

I will get into more detail on both framework idea below because they have different approaches in what it cover.
About ITIL
As far as I understand about ITIL either from class and presentation in the class, ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) is a framework that manages IT services lifecycles in a company. The keyword to be noted here is manage as it is what ITIL specifically made for. The main idea ITIL implements is to improve how IT delivers and supports enterprises.
ITIL enables IT service management in enterprises through 5 main stages which are:
- Service Strategy
- Service Design
- Service Transition
- Service Operation
- Continual Service Improvement
Each stage is covered by a book of its own and has different focus. Service strategy creates the concept of understand the financial importance of IT in enterprises. Service Design covers the approach on designing an IT services to a business. Service Transition defines the operation on deilvering an IT services while mitigating risks. Service Operation maintains the service on its daily tasks to deliver its best result. Continual service improvement analyze current performance in the currrent IT services lifecycle and try to pin point its problems then create a proposition for improvements.
