It seems that i did not know about this topic to be blogged until sometime ago but you know as they say, better late than never!
This test somehow made me think more than i should, it somehow changed the course of my study. Though some people might see it as a simple game or quiz, it made me realize something that your interest never runs too far from you.
I finished my Bachelor in IT with a final project of a Virtual Reality simulation of a DSLR. It aims to help people to experience and learn more about DSLR camera. I developed it in Unity with an Oculus Rift development kit in which my University had provided.
I came to NMIT to challenge myself into networking and systems security which somehow, so far, have not awaken any deep interest in me. Then Lars, my research method tutor, hits me with this particular quiz. It hit hard, it made me realize that i am not supposed to go this way. Which is why i have decided to stick to a virtual reality development environment for my project later.
Here is the results of the quiz that changed my perspective:
IT area/subject I have most enjoyed is Game development
IT area/subject I have least enjoyed is Networking
IT area/subject I was most interested in is Systems security
The one IT thing I never want to have to do again is Networking
I chose to study IT because I see there are a lot of job vacancies in IT
If I couldn’t study IT, I would study Culinary (definitely!)
When I was a kid I wanted to be Scientist
One IT thing I would like to know more about is Virtual and augmented reality
There it is. Ironic isn’t it. A student currently majoring in networking who do not want to do networking anymore. Oh well, that’s life. You make mistakes. You’ve got to learn from them and get up once again to continue the journey.
And what I also believe is that appreciation is key to having an enjoyable life. I would like to show my gratitude to my wonderful tutor Lars for bringing this peculiar test which has straighten my view in IT. Thank you!
